2008 Foaling Season is Underway

We are expecting four foals to be born at Shady Nook in 2008. We have internet cams and appreciate all watchers. Contact phone numbers are available and please do not hesitate to call if you see a problem.

The first mare due is Lopke D, Mintse x Feitse, with a Teade foal. Lopke is five years old and this is her first foal so we have no foaling history but expect her to deliver soon after April 1. Lopke is a very gentle mare and seems to be enjoying the extra attention, not to mention the 4 meals a day that she is receiving during her confinement. We are monitoring her 24 hours a day. Lies fan Bommelsteyn, Lute x Feitse, is carrying her second Wander foal and is due April 18th. Lies is a very experienced broodmare and a wonderful mother. Lies is also the mother of (link) Silvester and (link) Tiliana. If you see Lies lifting her hoof and begging like a dog it means that food is on the way! Lies is not currently on night confinement but the lights are on and she is frequently in her stall. Lies is at http://www.marestare.com/shadytwo.php shadynooktwo.

Not yet on cam but waiting in the wings is Jetta, Feike x Melle, and pregnant with an Anton foal. Jetta is now 5 years old and was the first Friesian born on our farm. She is very black and has lots of hair, which combined with Anton should make for an extremely hairy foal. Jetta will be with us through foaling and then she and her foal will join her new family, Bill and Debbie Dancer and their daughter Meredith. Jetta’s foal is due May 7th and she will replace Lopke on cam one.

Last due for 2008 is Lilly, Ielke x Tamme, a five year old daughter of our Tessa van de Zuiderwaard. Lilly is carrying her first foal, also a Wander baby. Her due date is approximately June 1 and she will be on cam two. I imagine that by the time Lilly delivers we will all be ready for some rest.
