About Us

Shady Nook Farm is owned by Pam and Bill Jackson and is located in York, South Carolina. York is conveniently located in upstate South Carolina and is easily accessible from I-77 and I-85. We purchased the 150 acre farm in 1999, and our first Friesian Octavia in 2000. Our goal is to breed six high quality Friesian foals per year. We have the broodmares in place for this goal and hope for the first full crop of foals to be born in 2007. We have worked hard to provide the best environment possible for mares and foals. We believe that lots of fresh air and exercise make for good, healthy, and happy foals. Each of our mare/foals have private 16 x 18 stalls, private paddocks, and private pastures. The pastures adjoin so that babies can socialize safely. At foaling time, we are on twenty- four hour watch aided by the use of foaling cameras.

We enjoy sharing the wonderful Friesian horse with others, and our horses often go, "out and about". We regularly take them to Equine Affairs, parades, private carriage events, and the show world. Some of our horses show in the Saddle Seat Circuit and we are proud to have won many Grand Championships. We have also shown in the International Friesian Show Horse Association's Grand Nationals in 2005. We also enjoy having visitors to the farm.

We believe and adhere to the rules and regulations of the Friesian Horse Association of North American (FHANA), and the parent organization the Friesch-Paarden Stamboek (FPS) and are members in good standing.

We are fortunate to have as farm manager Robert Phillip Lawton (aka RP). Robert has been with us from almost the beginning and as been of tremendous importance to the success of the farm. Robert has had extensive experience with horses and has competed in the AQHA circuit. He has previously worked with veterinarians and brings that experience to the farm. We are also pleased to have the assistance of Shereena Hickey, who lends her help with grooming, training, and general care of the horses.
